Tuition Reimbursement
Both our U.S. Operations and our Canadian subsidiary, Grand & Toy, offer tuition reimbursement programs to associates. Both programs encourage associates to pursue and achieve professional growth that offers the potential for career advancement within our companies, and that benefit our companies.
In 2007, our U.S. Operations announced that the OfficeMax Tuition Reimbursement Program would be available in 2008 to all associates, expanded from a 2006-2007 pilot phase implemented at our corporate headquarters. The Program reimburses associates for a percentage of tuition expenses up to a predetermined cap.
The Grand & Toy program distinguishes between job-related and business-related and/or self-improvement courses, offering a higher financial benefit for those designated as job-related. To qualify as “job-related,” the proposed course of study must relate closely to the associates’ present or expected future job.
Grand & Toy Scholarship Program
Through the Brian Brydges Scholarship Program, Grand & Toy provides our associates with an important educational benefit. The program awards financial contributions toward tuition expenses paid, for dependents of eligible associates entering an accredited Canadian university or community college for the first time. Three scholarship are awarded per year, based on the students’ academic performance and community involvement.
In 2007, Grand & Toy enhanced the program by shifting from a one-time lump-sum financial award to a yearly award for up to four years, increasing the overall potential financial benefit by 60 percent. Yearly awards are subject to certain renewal criteria.
Also in 2007, Grand & Toy began partnering with the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC). Throughout its 40-year history, AUCC has served as an advocate for the promotion of higher education through the management of scholarships/awards programs.
