Product Stewardship

Product stewardship comes in many forms at OfficeMax. We offer products with environmentally preferable qualities and provide services that help our customers reduce their own environmental impact. We establish and follow internal policies and procedures that reduce waste and promote recycling and the use of recycled products.

The primary areas in which we advance our product stewardship goals include the following:

• Sourcing and using paper products responsibly
• Offering ink and toner cartridge choices that help customers save money and reduce their environmental impact
• Providing supplies, electronics and furnishings that feature environmentally preferable properties
• Packaging and shipping products in a manner that reduces solid waste and energy usage
• Providing services that help our customers make environmentally responsible decisions

While our paper, ink and toner cartridges make up a significant part of the recycled products we sell, they do not represent the full extent. For example, more than 18 percent of the products featured in our 2008 Maxi catalog have recycled content. In addition, OfficeMax stocks all of the products included in our Maxi catalog. We never feature items that are only available to customers through special procurement. Stocking more than 2,200 products with recycled content is just one more way OfficeMax demonstrates its strong commitment to product stewardship.
