Giving back to the communities in which we operate is an important part of the OfficeMax philosophy. In particular, we focus our efforts on improving K-12 public education by supporting teachers and developing strategic partnerships that support diversity. |

OfficeMax Volunteer Program
|
|
|
The OfficeMax Volunteer Program is the main vehicle for OfficeMax's charitable contributions. The Volunteer Program has two primary goals:
- To end "teacher funded" classrooms and to help teachers inspire students
- To support the volunteerism efforts of OfficeMax associates.
We feel that teachers are the strongest link to the community and by supporting teachers, we can touch the lives of countless students and families. Teachers often lack necessary resources and many take it upon themselves to buy school supplies with their own money; at OfficeMax, we feel this is wrong and is a problem we need to address.
By tying our company’s financial resources directly to the volunteer activities of our associates, we make a greater impact in the communities where we live and do business. Through this program, we encourage OfficeMax associates to connect with K-12 public schools in their communities.
To learn more about the OfficeMax Volunteer Grants program and how your school or organization can benefit from it, please contact your local store manager or field representative.
- The program is administered by the OfficeMax Community Affairs Department with the involvement of associates from around the country.
- Retail District Managers and the management at non-retail OfficeMax locations are responsible for identifying and organizing eligible volunteer projects. Please note: due to the overwhelming number of inquiries we receive, we are unable to fund unsolicited requests for charitable donations.
- All charitable donations are administered by the OfficeMax Community Affairs Department and are governed by the OfficeMax Charitable Policy.

| Company-wide activities |
|
OfficeMax is deeply committed to improving the communities in which we serve. In addition to our charitable giving for local schools and nonprofits, we support the following national corporate charities and corporate events:
- A Day Made Better—On October 2, 2007, OfficeMax surprised 1000 teachers at 1000 schools around the nation by donating approximately $1200 worth of supplies to each of their classrooms. We did this because it is estimated that teachers, together, spend about $4 billion of their own money to make sure their students have the supplies they need to learn. OfficeMax feels this is a problem that we can help solve.
- Adopt-A-Classroom—Adopt-A-Classroom is a nonprofit organization that increases opportunity for student success by empowering teachers with community partners and funds to purchase resources for the classroom. OfficeMax supports Adopt-A-Classroom through direct financial contributions, the donations of our associates through the annual Associate Giving Campaign and in-store fundraisers.
- City of Hope—City of Hope is an office products industry designated charity. OfficeMax is proud to support this organization through financial contributions and participation in industry fundraising events.
- Kids In Need Foundation—This organization provides free school supplies to teachers at Title I schools through its 21 Resource Centers around the country. OfficeMax supports this organization with the donation of product, direct financial contributions, and the sponsorship of the Chicagoland and Cleveland Resource Centers.
- The Jeff Sluman & OfficeMax "Drive for Hope" program—PGA TOUR golfer Jeff Sluman teamed up with OfficeMax to create The Jeff Sluman & OfficeMax ""Drive for Hope." Under the partnership, OfficeMax donates $500 for each birdie and $1,000 for each eagle that Sluman records on the PGA TOUR in 2004, 2005 and 2006. OfficeMax donated $184,000 in 2004, $166,000 in 2005 and $183,500 in 2006. The 2006 program raised more than $665,000 in all, half of which went to the City of Hope and half of which was split among Sluman-designated charities.
- United Way—OfficeMax matches associate donations to the numerous United Way affiliates throughout the nation. The OfficeMax Associate Giving Campaign, which includes United Way as a charity option, takes place annually during the Fall.
